Bostik offers guides to help you understand the various environmentally conscious declarations and testing certifications, and how they are relevant to Bostik products and the Building and Construction industry. These include:

  • LEED® Credits
  • FloorScore® (VOC Testing and Certification)
  • Health Product Declaration (HPD)
  • Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

LEED Credits

LEED stands for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and it is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Attached to the LEED name displays your commitment to green buildings and a healthier, more efficient, more sustainable culture overall. This applies to every aspect of the design, construction, operations and maintenance of green buildings. For more information on LEED, including some facts of green living that reinforce the value of LEED, check out the U.S. Green Building Council: https://www.usgbc.org/leed/why-leed

Many of the products in the Bostik portfolio offer LEED points towards projects.

FloorScore VOC Testing

One of the more important certifications to have is one that confirms the amount of off-gaseous emissions produced by a product, otherwise known as VOC testing. The passing of these tests as specified by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

Much like its name would suggest, FloorScore is the indoor air quality (IAQ) certification standard for hard surface flooring materials, adhesives, and underlayments. Because of this, Bostik has made the informed decision to certify most of our flooring adhesive products under the FloorScore name.

Health Product Declaration (HPD)

A Health Product Declaration (HPD) certification communicates the “ingredients” of a product, indicating testing down to 99.9% disclosure of the product’s makeup. The process involves comparing the ingredients to a set of priority “hazard” lists supplied by various government agencies. HPDs offer additional LEED credits.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

An EPD test analyzes the carbon footprint of a product category (determined by chemistry base and manufacturing processes), and by product. An EPD certification over an entire category offers LEED credit eligibility for each product in that category. Bostik is proud to maintain an industry-wide (IW) EPD for all grouts and mortars through the Tile Council of North America (TCNA).

In addition to the IW EPD set up by TCNA, Bostik has carefully chosen a selection of products from our expansive portfolio of building solutions to undergo further testing to qualify for product-specific (PS) EPD certification, which offers additional LEED credits.
