Research & Development
Our research and development efforts are driven by the present and future needs of our customers.
Our R&D teams – over 320 chemists and technicians worldwide – are constantly focused on designing cost effective adhesives, which help our customers improving the performance of their product and the productivity of their processes, while maintaining priority on easy and safe handling, and minimizing the impact on the environment. We place great emphasis on acquiring and maintaining a deep knowledge of our customers applications and processes, in all the markets we are serving. Our ambition is to provide not only high performance adhesives, but fully functional and highly optimized solutions to our customers bonding and sealing requirements.

Application Expertise
One of our strengths is our ability to give local technical support in all regions, while providing our customers with the broad product and application technological expertise available from Bostik worldwide.
Our research and development laboratories include the latest pilot application equipment necessary for advanced product development and commercial production simulation. In addition to extending our customers' development capabilities, this reduces the time it takes to develop and scale-up first-to-market products, which is a significant competitive advantage.

Core Technologies
Although technical support and application expertise is available in each country where we are operating, our main R&D centres – located in France, USA, Germany, UK, and Australia – are focusing their efforts on our core technologies :

  • hot-melts (including web, and film adhesives
  • reactive (silane-modified polymers and polyurethanes)
  • water-based
  • formulated cementitious adhesives

Key R&D Drivers
The main drivers which orient our research and development programs are :

  • Developing functional adhesives which achieve more than just sticking things together,
  • Developing adhesives with additional benefit in replacement of traditional mechanical fastening methods, for instance :
    • Crashworthiness, lightweight and durability in transportation,
    • Weatherability, performance, labour reduction in construction,
    • Ease of use and versatility in household and Do-it-Yourself products.
  • Reduce usage of non renewable resources, and proactively promote technologies which are safe to use and harmless to man and the environment.
  • Improving performance-to-cost ratio in existing applications (lower adhesive usage, increase line speed, decrease down time, easier and faster application in construction products).
