M53 ELASTOSOL

Elastosol
Product overview
Elastosol M53 is a warm applied, low modulus anti-flutter material. It is a high viscosity paste at room temperature, which means that it exhibits excellent wash out resistance during the cleaning and pre-treatment processes.
Available sizes
CARTRIDGES 310 ML/C12
DRUM(S) 270 KG/P2
DRUMS 22 KG/P18

Adhesion Approx. 3 [MPa] (stoving conditions 35 minutes at 180°C. Bond 20 x 25 x 2mm)
Temperature Resistance The physical properties of Elastosol M53 vary according to temperature but it retains good cohesive strength over a wide temperature range.
Viscosity 700 - 900 [Pa.s] at 10s⁻¹, 65°C (measured on a controlled stress rheometer cone and plate set up)
Relative Density Approx. 1.35
Important Before embarking on any work involving Elastosol M53 the safety data sheet should be carefully studied by those carrying out the work.
Recommended Use Elastosol M53 may be used for a wide range of sealing and bonding operations such as bonding outer panels to inner panels and reinforcing stringers on hoods, trunks and roofs. Elastosol M53 is free from chlorine and does not contain epoxy.
Shelf Life 12 months from date of manufacture, unopened in original container stored under the above conditions.
Storage
  • M53, like all Elastosols, must be protected from rain, snow and extreme heat.
  • The drums should not be stored outside where there will be potential for water ingress to occur.
  • M53 should be stored unopened in a cool dark place at no more than 20°C in order to preserve the 12 monthshelf life from date of manufacture.
  • Please note: if the storage temperature is very low, the product must be allowed to warm up to ambient temperature prior to application.
Method Of Use

APPLICATION

  • Elastosol M53 may be applied using a pump incorporating a heated induct or plate and heated hoses and gun.
  • Elastosol M53 has been developed for application 70°C. It is recommended that the platen is heated to 50°C and the rest of the equipment is heated in stages up to 70°C at the gun.
  • If not in use for approximately one hour, it is recommended that the equipment is set to standby mode, to avoid curing of material within the machine

OVER-PAINTING

  • Elastosol M53 can be overpainted with oil based, cellulose based or stoving enamels but does not accept electrocoat paint.

ADHESION AND CURE CONDITIONS

  • Elastosol M53 is applied to oily steel (oil coating 2 - 4 g/m2) at the body-in-white stage of the car building process.
  • Consequently Elastosol M53 has been designed to cure in the electrocoat paint ovens.
  • It is recommended that Elastosol M53 is cured between 160°C and 205°C for 30 minutes.
  • Overbaking does not lead to loss of adhesion and there is no risk of corrosive fumes being emitted
