M91 ELASTOSOL

Elastosol
Product overview
Elastosol M91 is a warm applied paste that exhibits high viscosity at room temperature, which means that it exhibits excellent wash out resistance during the cleaning and pre-treatment processes.
Available sizes
DRUM(S) 300 KG/P2
METAL DRUMS 35 KG/P18
CARTRIDGES 310 ML/C12

Smart Advantages

Good shear strength values when tested at high temperature
Highly resistant to wash out in the pre-treatment baths
Adheres to a wide range of metal substrates
Key Benefits
  • Good shear strength values when tested at high temperature
  • Highly resistant to wash out in the pre-treatment baths
  • Adheres to a wide range of metal substrates
  • Cures at paint stoving temperatures to form a high modulus material
  • Does not produce corrosive by-products during welding or curing
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Excellent resistance to over baking
  • Does not contain epoxy or volatile solvents
Adhesive Technology AUTOMOTIVE ELASTOSOL
Color Grey / Black
Adhesion Approx. 18 [MPa] (stoving conditions 30 minutes at 180°C. Bond 20 x 25 x 0.3mm)
Temperature Resistance The physical properties of Elastosol M91 vary according to temperature, but it retains good cohesive strength over a wide temperature range.
Chemical Resistance Elastosol M91 is resistant to water, common salt, ethylene glycol and oil in its cured state. Continuous immersion in petrol will swell the cured polymer.
Relative Density Approx. 2
Important Before embarking on any work involving Elastosol M91 the safety data sheet should be carefully studied by those carrying out the work.
Recommended Use Elastosol M91 is a warm applied metal to metal adhesive that cures in the electrocoat paint ovens to form a high modulus, structural adhesive. Elastosol M91 is free from chlorine and does not contain epoxy.
Shelf Life 12 months from date of manufacture, unopened in original container stored under the above conditions.
Storage
  • M91, like all Elastosols, must be protected from rain, snow and extreme heat.
  • The drums should not be stored outside where there will be potential for water ingress to occur.
  • M91 should be stored unopened in a cool dark place at no more than 20°C in order to preserve the 12 month shelf life from date of manufacture.
  • Please note: if the storage temperature is very low, the product must be allowed to warm up to ambient temperature prior to application.
Method Of Use

APPLICATION

  • Elastosol M91 may be applied using a pump incorporating a heated inductor plate and heated hoses and gun.
  • Elastosol M91 has been developed to be applied at 40°C.
  • It is recommended that the platen is heated to 30°C and the rest of the equipment is heated in stages up to 40°C at the gun.
  • If not in use for approximately one hour, it is recommended that the equipment is set to standby mode, to avoid curing of material within the machine

OVERPAINTING

  • Elastosol M91 can be overpainted with oil based, cellulose based or stoving enamels but does not accept electrocoat paint.

ADHESION AND CURE CONDITIONS

  • Elastosol M91 is applied to oily steel (oil coating 2-4 g/m2) at the body-in-white stage of the car building process.
  • Elastosol M91 has been designed to cure in the electrocoat paint ovens to form a high modulus material.
  • It is recommended that Elastosol M91 is cured between 160°C and 205°C for 30 minutes.
  • Overbaking does not lead to loss of adhesion and there is no risk of corrosive fumes being emitted.
