M98 ELASTOSOL

Elastosol
Product overview
Elastosol M98 is an interweld sealer. It is a high viscosity paste at room temperature which means that it exhibits excellent wash-out resistance during the cleaning and pre-treatment processes. Elastosol M98 is free from chlorine and does not contain epoxy.
Available sizes
CARTRIDGES 310 ML/C12

Important Before embarking on any work involving Elastosol M98 the safety data sheet should be carefully studied by those carrying out the work.
Recommended Use Elastosol M98 has been developed for use as an interweld sealer that is applied to oily steel and then welded through in the uncured state. Elastosol M98 may be heated up to a maximum of 60°C to increase the rate of application. Efficient extraction systems are recommended at this stage of the process. Elastosol M98 cures in the electrocoat paint ovens to form a flexible seal between spotwelds.
Shelf Life 12 months from date of manufacture, unopened in original container stored under the above conditions
Storage
  • M98, like all Elastosols, must be protected from rain, snow and extreme heat.
  • The drums should not be stored outside where there will be potential for water ingress to occur.
  • M98 should be stored unopened in a cool dark place at no more than 20°C in order to preserve the 12 month shelf life from date of manufacture.
  • Please note: if the storage temperature is very low, the product must be allowed to warm up to ambient temperature prior to application.
Method Of Use

APPLICATION

  • Elastosol M98 may be applied using a pump incorporating a heated inductor plate and heated hoses and gun.
  • Elastosol M98 has been developed for application at 60°C.
  • It is recommended that the platen is heated to 50°C and the rest of the equipment is heated in stages up to 60°C at the gun.
  • If not in use for approximately one hour, it is recommended that the equipment is set to standby mode, to avoid curing of material within the machine

OVERPAINTING

  • Elastosol M98 can be overpainted with oil based, cellulose based or stoving enamels but does not accept electrocoat paint.

ADHESION AND CURE CONDITIONS

  • Elastosol M98 is applied to oily steel (oil coating 2 - 4 g/m2) at the body-in-white stage of the car building process.
  • The complete joint is spotwelded through with the Elastosol M98 still in the uncured state.
  • Consequently Elastosol M98 has been designed to cure in the electrocoat paint ovens to form a flexible seal between spotwelds.
  • It is recommended that Elastosol M98 is cured between 160°C and 205°C for 30 minutes.
  • Overbaking does not lead to loss of adhesion and there is no risk of corrosive fumes being emitted.
