What is the Best Product for Your Project?
Selecting the right repair mortar depends on your specific application requirements and site conditions. For rapid repairs requiring high early strength, Bostik Rapid Setting Cement offers a rapid 20-minute set time.
When working with decorative stonework and masonry, our Barrier Mortar accommodates natural movement while maintaining an authentic appearance. The product's advanced polymer content ensures lasting adhesion even in challenging weather conditions.
For general maintenance and smaller repairs, Bostik General Purpose Mortar offers reliable performance on brick, masonry and concrete surfaces. This versatile formulation allows extended working time and can be smoothed or textured to match surrounding surfaces.
Concrete and Render Repair Guide
Proper surface preparation is essential to achieve lasting concrete repairs. Start by thoroughly cleaning the repair area to remove loose debris and contaminants. A wire brush or suitable cleaning method helps create the optimal surface for strong adhesion.
Before applying your chosen Bostik repair mortar, dampen the surface without saturating it. This step prevents moisture being drawn from the repair material too quickly. If the background is highly absorbent, apply an SBR bonding coat. If the repair mortar requires mixing, combine it with clean water as directed on the packaging, ensuring a smooth, workable consistency.
Apply the repair mortar firmly into the prepared area using a trowel. For deeper repairs, build up in layers, allowing each layer to stiffen before applying the next. When layering, ensure each coat is applied thickest first, reducing in size thereafter to prevent cracking and ensure a stable bond between layers. Smooth the final layer to match surrounding textures, then protect the repair from extreme weather during the initial curing phase.
