In 2020 European Commission announced the new ambitious project PRESERVE, coordinated by IRIS (Spain), which aims at boosting the circular use of bio-based packaging.

Bostik is collaborating in the PRESERVE project, an ambitious initiative announced by European Commission and coordinated by IRIS (Spain).  As one of the stakeholders, Bostik is actively contributing to build an innovative solution - a biobased laminating system which enables multi-layers separation for a greener and more sustainable future.

PRESERVE as an innovative approach to bio-based packaging

PRESERVE will develop a set of innovative processes and bioproducts as coatings and adhesives, which will foster the circular use of bio-based packaging. To shift from the current situation (fossil-based, limited recycling), award-winning upcycling strategies will be built on from past and on-going projects. The versatility of the end of life options, materials, flexible and rigid packaging types and compatibility with different processes, ensure that PRESERVE results are relevant to more than 60% of the plastic packaging on the market, whose long term substitution potential will be maximized thanks to the participation of several leading companies in the consortium.

An EU collective contribution

Indeed, the goal is ambitious and the objective will be made possible thanks to the collaboration of organizations from 9 European countries. At least 10 packaging items will be enhanced, in order to validate the results on a circular economy perspective.

The virtual kick-off meeting took place at the end of January 2021 and brought together 26 partners from the 10 countries participating in the PRESERVE H2020 project. Projects such as PRESERVE help to foster cooperation and cluster the different stakeholders to achieve the goals set by the European Commission in the European Green Deal.

Bostik fostering Circular Economy

As a pioneer in the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the adhesive industry, Bostik takes into account Eco-design principles in product development process. As part of Preserve, Bostik Advanced Packaging team sees in this project a call to action for companies to start the transition to a circular bio-economy, with all stakeholders working together to enable this transition.
