M83 ELASTOSOL

Elastosol
Product overview
Elastosol M83 is a room temperature applied, low viscosity paste. Elastosol M83 is free from chlorine, consequently it is suitable for welding through, providing that suitable extraction is available, as it does not produce corrosive products at the high temperatures encountered during spot welding. In addition, Elastosol M83 does not contain epoxy.
Available sizes
DRUMS 28 KG/P18
CARTRIDGES 310 ML/C12

Adheres to a wide range of metal substrates.
Contains no volatile solvents or oils.
Cures at paint stoving temperatures.
Key Benefits
  • Adheres to a wide range of metal substrates.
  • Contains no volatile solvents or oils.
  • Cures at paint stoving temperatures.
  • Does not produce corrosive by-products during welding or curing.
  • Excellent chemical resistance.
  • Excellent resistance to overbaking.

Adhesive Technology AUTOMOTIVE ELASTOSOL
Color Black
Adhesion Approx. 10, cohesive failure [MPa] (Stoving conditions 30 minutes at 180°C. Bond 20 x 25 x 0.3 mm. Substrates mild & electrogalvanised steels)
Temperature Resistance The physical properties of Elastosol M83 vary according to temperature, but it retains good cohesive strength over a wide temperature range.
Viscosity 300 - 500 [Pa.s] at 10s ⁻¹, 23ºC (measured on a Carrimed controlled stress rheometer cone and plate set up)
Chemical Resistance Elastosol M83 is resistant to water, common salt, ethylene glycol and oil & petrol in its cured state. Continuous immersion in petrol will swell the cured polymer.
Relative Density Approx. 1.67
Important Before embarking on any work involving Elastosol M83 the safety data sheet should be carefully studied by those carrying out the work.
Recommended Use Elastosol M83 was developed as a high strength metal to metal adhesive for use in the automotive industry.
Shelf Life 12 months from date of manufacture, unopened in original container stored under the above conditions.
Storage
  • M83, like all Elastosols, must be protected from rain, snow and extreme heat.
  • The drums should not be stored outside where therewill be potential for water ingress to occur.
  • M83 should be stored unopened in a cool dark place atno more than 20°C in order to preserve the 12 month shelf life from date of manufacture
  • Please note: if the storage temperature is very low,the product must be allowed to warm up to ambient temperature prior to application.
Method Of Use

APPLICATION

  • Elastosol M83 may be applied using either conventional air-operated pumps or by ‘swirl’ application equipment.

ADHESION AND CURE CONDITIONS

  • Elastosol M83 adheres well to metal surfaces and tolerates light coatings of mill or drawing oils (2 - 4 g/m2).
  • The minimum stoving condition to obtain good adhesion is 30 minutes at 160°C.
  • Shorter times are acceptable at higher temperatures.
  • With Elastosols, overbaking does not lead to a loss of adhesion

OVERPAINTING

  • Elastosol M83 can be overpainted with oil based, cellulose based or stoving enamels but does not accept electrophoretic paint
