Learn what industry insiders expect for diapers, period care, and incontinence in the next 10 years. Our industry is constantly evolving. Ask a group of professionals how it will look a decade from now, and you will get many different answers. We polled professionals across the globe for their considered opinions. And, the survey says…

The world of absorbent hygiene is always in flux. Some regions of the world are experiencing rapid expansion in baby and period care markets. Others anticipate a growing older demographic and increased incontinence product sales. Because of these and other factors, many hygiene professionals see big changes ahead.

But how closely aligned are their expectations? To find out, we surveyed 120 individuals within the industry about what they anticipate for hygiene in the next 10 years. Those selected fulfil a variety of roles for companies ranging in size from under 250 employees to over 5000.

The survey asked 23 questions designed to gauge our respondents’ outlook on several topics of particular interest to the industry today. We began with a question to learn what topic was most on their minds when they think of the future. From there, we delved into specific areas including:

  • Corporate social responsibility
  • Expectations for market change
  • Shifting style preferences
  • Premium features
  • Market share drivers
  • Sustainable products

In it, you will find key take-aways and graphics representing their responses. We’ve also included several interesting—and sometimes unexpected—quotes for your consideration.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • Respondents predicted growth by almost a 4:1 margin for all three major absorbent hygiene categories
  • 61% believed renewable products will remain a luxury alternative
  • Less than 1 in 5 believed that renewable materials will replace the more traditional petroleum-based options by 2033; a slightly larger number expected no real change at all in the materials used
  • When asked which sustainable materials are likely to be used most, cotton was the most common answer; other rankings varied greatly by region.
  • Those working for companies in Asia Pacific and North America predicted that increased comfort and better odour prevention will be the most-desired premium features; only respondents based in Western Europe placed sustainable materials as the most likely premium driver
