Find out how typical packaging designs for anaerobic and instant adhesives may increase your expenses and how packaging that is specifically designed with a dosing nozzle can help reduce overall costs.

As a manufacturer, you may use anaerobic adhesives or instant adhesives in your maintenance processes. When you want to reduce overall costs, it’s likely you consider how to:

  • Increase production speeds
  • Utilize more affordable materials

However, you may not be aware that the packaging of your anaerobic or instant adhesives can play a role in your overall cost savings. Learn how typical packaging designs may increase your expenses and how packaging that is specifically designed with a dosing nozzle – and more - can help reduce overall costs.

Typical Anaerobic and Instant Adhesive Packaging Disadvantage: No Dosing Nozzle

Typical anaerobic and instant adhesive packaging designs do not include a dosing nozzle; it’s common for anaerobic adhesives to be packaged with sealed tips that need to be cut open for use. For instant adhesives, the dispenser’s diameter can often be more than four millimeters. Both packaging designs make it difficult to control the amount of adhesive being dispensed for consistent precision.

While the upfront costs of your anaerobic or instant adhesive solutions may appear to be affordable, your overall material expenses may not be as cost-effective as you expect. This is because options that do not have a dosing nozzle may:

  • Reduce precision: Without a dosing nozzle to control the amount of adhesive being used for each part, you likely are not applying a consistent quantity to each product. It’s common to cut open the tip of the bottle when a dosing nozzle is not present, which means the amount of adhesive applied each time can vary, leading to increased costs overall.
  • Impact bond performance: While your anaerobic or instant adhesives may be formulated to provide high bonding strength, it’s possible your bonding performance is being impacted by using a solution without a dosing nozzle. For example, if your part is bonded with additional instant adhesives than what is needed to meet the required bond strength, it could increase rigidity and potentially create risk for damage or breakage if the structural strength is too much after curing. This could result in more costs for replacement materials or added downtime to fix issues.
  • Decrease recycling capabilities: If your anaerobic or instant adhesives are packaged with a bottle that includes a metal pin in the dispenser, it will not be deemed acceptable to move through the recycling stream. This can result in additional material waste for your facility, increasing overall waste management costs.

Advantages of Anaerobic and Instant Adhesive Packaging with a Dosing Nozzle

Choosing anaerobic or instant adhesives packaged with a dosing nozzle helps you maximize the overall product value and save costs. This is because the packaging offers:

  • Precise dispensing: With packaging that enables you to click the nozzle to a specific setting rather than cutting open the tip, you can dispense the right amount of adhesive for your desired screw size or part every time. This will create consistency amongst the adhesive quantity on your products or MRO components, helping you know the exact amount that has been used. This can also help you know how many uses you’ll get out of each bottle based on its settings to help streamline overall costs.
  • Proper adhesive usage: Using anaerobic or instant adhesives that have dosing nozzles allows you to eliminate the risk of wasting material to help you use the right amount of adhesive to achieve your desired bond strength. In fact, a little goes a long way with the right packaging:
    • Anaerobic adhesives contain 50 ml per bottle; compared to competitors, this provides 10-30 percent more product in the same bottle due to the density of the material.*
    • Instant adhesives in a 20 ml bottle can produce 2,000 precise dots*

This knowledge allows you to reduce problems that result from too much adhesive being used on a part, helping to decrease costs for additional replacement materials.

  • Supply cost savings: As noted above, knowing exactly how many uses you will get from a single bottle of anaerobic or instant adhesives helps you to streamline your supply costs to reduce expenses in the long run. You can track the number of times a bottle has been used to determine how long it is anticipated to last based on its settings. This will help prevent purchasing too much supply that could go to waste or running out before you have more.
  • Recyclable packaging: Rather than including a metal pin like other options, anaerobic and instant adhesive packaging with a dosing nozzle is made from 100% plastic and can be fully recycled. Along with reducing your environmental footprint, this allows you to decrease the overall waste from your facility, resulting in less waste management costs.

Unpacking More Cost-Effective Packaging Components

In addition to the dosing nozzle, our packaging offers several other elements to help reduce costs.

Precision Tip:

This applicator helps deliver the necessary amount of adhesive to the exact place where it’s needed. With hands-free opening capabilities, the cap design provides less mess to users compared to competitive options that require hands to open the tip for adhesive flow, which also can contribute to wasted adhesive material. Additionally, if the bottle falls over, the cap design will prevent the loss of adhesive, which also helps avoid cleanup or wasted supply.

Click Cap:

The click cap is designed to provide easy usability with a range of settings that enable precise dispensing and awareness of how many uses you can get from a single bottle. For example, based on internal testing:

  • One 50 ml bottle of threadlocker anaerobic adhesives can bond up to 1000 M5 screws
  • Pipe sealant and gasket solutions offer four different positions to help with the correct dosing:
    • At position 1: One 50ml bottle of pipe sealant can bond 500 pipes ¼
    • At position 1: One 50ml bottle of gasketing can bond 7lm of flange
  • One 20-gram bottle of instant adhesives provides 2,000 drops

Additionally, the click cap opens the tip of the bottle without touching the adhesive, which reduces the chances of contamination to the system or exposure to the user.

Plastic Pin:

Unlike other options that use a metal pin, this plastic pin within the tip makes the entire package 100% recyclable for easy disposability and reduced landfill waste. In some cases, the seal on the tip also prevents dripping to avoid messes or adhesive supply waste.

Label:

The label on the bottle contains a coating that helps prevent wear and tear over time; this makes the messaging clear to provide confidence to the user in understanding safety directions and knowing what performance features they will receive from the adhesive technology.
