Bostik’s Turbo-Seal® LOOP 1.0, the market’s first cold seal adhesive that meets BPI-certification for industrial compostable flexible packaging applications, receives innovation award during Adhesive & Sealant Council’s Annual Convention

Bostik, the adhesive solutions segment of Arkema, is proud to announce its industrial compostable cold seal, Turbo-Seal® LOOP 1.0, received 1st runner-up in the ASC Innovation Awards at the ASC Annual Convention & Expo on April 16, 2024.

The ASC Innovation Awards recognizes adhesive and sealant developments that provide significant impact and contribution to addressing unmet needs and making technological advancements. The participants were judged by a panel of three industry judges with experience in research, chemistry, and product development.

This year, Bostik submitted Turbo-Seal® LOOP 1.0 to ASC, because it possesses certification from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) as being an industrial, compostable cold seal coating solution, and there has not been a compostable adhesive for heat-sensitive flexible packaging such as confectionary, baked goods and medical applications to date. This has meant that brand owners have been unable to offer 100% compostable packaging for those applications until now.

“Bostik is honored to receive this distinguishment from the Adhesive and Sealant Council. We truly appreciate our technical team’s expertise and how they’re using it to improve sustainable flexible packaging capabilities in the global packaging market,” said Jeff Ogren, Business and Marketing

Director for North America Flexible Packaging at Bostik. “We are proud to answer this unmet market need as the first adhesive supplier to help converters expand their cold seal packaging offerings with a compostable solution; we look forward to continuing to help our customers meet their goals and reduce environmental impact.”

In addition to being compatible with many compostable films and papers, Turbo-Seal® LOOP 1.0 offers:

  • Ambient sealing for heat-sensitive applications such as confectionary and medical and reduces material distortion
  • Similar production efficiencies to traditional cold seals, enabling you to continue using the same equipment and reduce investment costs
  • Low odor and foaming as a PFAS-free solution to help enhance overall processing efficiencies.
