Butyl Insulating Glass
What are Butyl Insulating Glass Sealants?
What is Bostik innovation about Butyl Insulating Glass Sealant?
Bostik designs sustainable Butyl Adesives or Sealants that favour production efficiency and sustainability. We have high diversity of materials and colors.
Here is some of our last innovations:
Bostik 6000 with i-BoostTM Technology is the next generation of single part hot melt butyl sealants for the production of insulating glass units. Bostik 6000 shows:
- Improved mechanical performance
- Increased thermal resistance
- Highest application speed
Frequently Asked Questions about Butyl Adhesives and Sealants
In what form can I buy Butyl adhesives?
For high throughput applications, use drums. For smaller scale applications, consider using pails, tape, rope or cartridges. Bostik has the capability to create tapes, ropes and stamps out of most of the butyl products that are available.
How to understand the required temperature range performance?
Butyl adhesives have a high temperature performance range. Once the adhesive is in place, it can withstand temperatures well over 200°F. Sealants are defined by the temperature range they can handle. Bostik helps customers determine which sealant to use based on the temperature range a given application will need to withstand.
What are the differences between a Butyl adhesive and an Acrylic adhesive?
The advantages of Butyls are high initial tack, waterproof, impermeable to air, and high level of adhesion. However, Butyl are susceptible to oxydation, and have poor UV resistance.
In comparison, Acrylic adhesives provide durability on polar surfaces, temperature resistance, color stability, and high level of cohesion. However, they need time to fully set, and have poor adhesion to low energy surfaces.
