ISOSET™ MAX Structural Adhesive Benefits

ISOSET™ MAX, Bostik’s moisture cure, polyurethane structural adhesive technology, is designed to help improve mass timber and engineered wood production efficiency without compromising structural performance.

These structural bonding adhesives, such as our MAX 1000 series, are ambient curing and can help increase efficiencies in the following ways:

  • Optimized assembly time to press time ratios: ISOSET™ MAX products provide a 7-to-80 minute assembly time range to give you sufficient time to manufacture mass timber and engineered wood products; however, their proprietary formulation allows you to keep press times to a minimum.
  • Reduced production complexities: As a one-component technology, no mixing or metering is required; this can reduce process complexity and streamline production when using these as structural wood adhesives for mass timber and engineered wood applications.
  • Decreased SKU needs: ISOSET™ MAX offers adhesion to wood species including to SPF, Douglas Fur, Southern Yellow Pine and Alaskan Yellow Cedar, which can allow you to use one adhesive across mass timber and engineered wood production lines.

Additionally, ISOSET™ MAX is a solvent and formaldehyde free product series formulated to yield:

  • Strong bonds: This capability helps the mass timber and engineered wood adhesives to maintain adhesion during the product’s life.
  • Moisture, temperature and fire resistance: These structural wood adhesives can help protect mass timber and engineered wood products from degradation, warping or delamination when exposed to moisture, varied temperatures and fire.

These capabilities allow them to work well on CLT, glulam, finger joining applications, and more!

Our ISOSET™ MAX products also have been certified to meet:

  • ANSI A190.1 and CSA O122 standards for structural glued laminated timber
  • ANSI 405 and CSA O112.9 standards for resistance to aspects such as compression loading, delamination, deformation under static shear loading in heat and humidity
  • PRG-320 standards for strength, durability, fire and creep testing
  • PRG-320 Annex B full scale compartment fire test

ISOSET™ EPI Structural Adhesive Benefits

Our ISOSET EPI are two-part, water-based products designed to be wood bonding structural adhesives. They are suitable for engineered wood, such as I-Joists and finger joints, along with mass timber, such as cross laminated timber (CLT) and glulam products.

These products are formulated to help your production processes in the following ways:

  • Ability to use less wood or most cost-effective wood: Because these structural wood adhesives offer high strength, they can bond to wood that otherwise may not be usable.
  • Ambient curing: These adhesives for engineered wood applications do not require heat to cure, which can help you reduce energy consumption and equipment maintenance.
  • Varied application methods: ISOSET™ EPI structural adhesives can be applied via extrusion or, for laminated panel products, via roll coating.

Additionally, these I-joists and finger joint adhesives can meet certain performance criteria, such as:

  • Excellent thermal stability: ISOSET™ EPI structural adhesives can maintain strength when exposed to heat conditions.
  • Moisture and humidity resistance: This capability allows the engineered wood product to maintain integrity during its lifespan.
  • Specific approvals, such as ITK-77560 for fire door components: By achieving this approval, ISOSET™ EPI structural adhesives can help improve occupant safety.

Depending on your application, our ISOSET™ EPI I-joists and finger joint adhesives have been formulated to pass codes including:

  • ASTM D2559
  • ASTM D7247
  • CSA O112.10
  • CSA O112.9

ISOSET™ PEP Structural Adhesive Benefits

Bostik’s ISOSET™ PEP structural adhesives for engineered wood include the UX-100 series, two-part systems based on 100% reactive polyurethane blended with conventional ISOSET™ emulsion. They can help finger joints, I-joists and other engineered wood manufacturing in the following ways:

  • Ability to use less wood or most cost-effective wood: These adhesives are formulated to offer high strength so that you can bond wood that otherwise may not be usable.
  • Fast green strength: ISOSET™ PEP structural wood adhesives are formulated to be applied via extrusion and can provide fast green strength to keep production lines moving as full cure occurs.
  • Ambient curing: These structural adhesives do not require heat to cure; this can help reduce energy usage and equipment maintenance.

ISOSET™ PEP structural adhesives for engineered wood also can provide:

  • Moisture and humidity resistance: ISOSET™ PEP is formulated to maintain adhesion when exposed to moisture and humidity.
  • Color neutrality with wood-colored bond line: This allows your engineered wood product to yield an aesthetically pleasing look that consumers desire.

Depending on your application, our ISOSET™ PEP solutions have been formulated to pass codes including:

  • ASTM D2559
  • ASTM D7247
  • CSA O112.10
  • CSA O112.9
