Truck Hood Adhesives & Sealants
How Our Seam Sealants Help Truck Hoods
Our seam sealants are silyl modified polymers (SMPs) and two-part polyurethanes that can help your truck hoods by offering:
- Compatibility with lightweight composites: Our seam sealants can be applied to composites such as DCPDs, SMCs and TPOs, which can contribute to a lighter truck hood overall compared to other options.
- More sustainable formulations: Our seam sealants can be isocyanate and solvent-free; in addition to reducing hazardous materials and associated emissions, they can help improve worker safety.
- Electric conductivity: Compared to traditional electrostatic paint processes, which utilize an electrically-conductive primer and non-conductive seam sealant, our SMP solution is formulated with the electric conductivity and sealing properties in one product. This eliminates the need for a primer before sealing during electrostatic paint processes. This can reduce SKUs, production complexities as well as associated costs and energy usage.
- Fast cure: Our two-part polyurethane seam sealants offer fast cure speeds, which can minimize downtime, costs and energy usage.
Featured Seam Sealant Truck Hood Products
Our truck hood seam sealants include:
- VSR 400A: A moisture-cure, one-component seam sealant, VSR 400A is designed for sealing composites, such as SMCs. It is electrically-conductive, which eliminates the need for a primer when conducting electrostatic paint processes, contributing to reduced energy and costs. VSR 400A also has low viscosity to help with application ease.
- 8000/7648: A two-part polyurethane, this product’s chemistry allows it to offer fast, ambient cure to keep production lines moving and energy usage to a minimum. Additionally, it has a 1:1 mix ratio and gravity feed compatibility to aid in easy dispensing and reduced equipment complexities.
How Our PLIOGRIP™ Structural Adhesives Help Truck Hoods
Our PLIOGRIP™ structural adhesives (two-part polyurethane, low modulus polyurethane and methyl methacrylates) can offer the following benefits to your truck hoods:
- High heat resistance: Our PLIOGRIP™ two-part polyurethanes can meet OEM needs for excellent bond performance when exposed to high temperatures, such as those near the truck engine.
- Compatibility with thermoplastic hoods: Our PLIOGRIP™ low modulus polyurethane solutions are formulated to be compatible with thermoplastic hood substrates, such as glass-filled polypropylene and TPO. By utilizing them together, you can streamline recycling effectiveness at the end of a part’s life.
- Ability to bond to lightweight composites: Our PLIOGRIP™ two-part polyurethane and methyl methacrylate adhesives are designed to bond to composites including low-density sheet molding compounds, DCPDs and TPOs, which helps improve aesthetics while aiding in a lightweight end-use product.
