The Value in Our Laminations Plant Improvements
Find out what improvements Bostik has made to its laminations plant and how they highlight what it means to work with Bostik.
Throughout the United States and around the globe, Bostik’s manufacturing plants invest in our people and our capabilities so that our adhesives can address customers’ evolving needs. At our plant in Wauwatosa, WI, this has meant making key improvements to our lamination production lines to keep up with rising volume demands while still meeting stringent quality specifications. Find out what we did and how these improvements highlight what it means to work with and be part of Bostik.
Increased Throughput
At Bostik, we understand the importance of keeping up with customers’ high output demands. To help us address them as quickly and efficiently as possible, we invested in the following:
- Optimized Capacity: Our team optimized our existing production capacity so that we could manufacture more products than in the past. We did this by working together to develop a strategic approach that incorporated an existing production line, which otherwise was not being used for certain adhesive technologies. This entailed revamping the equipment set up and dispensing capabilities while also implementing innovative design ideas to help ensure safety and product quality.
- Equipment Upgrades: We also invested in upgrading our adhesive manufacturing equipment. For example, after taking the time to assess production efficiencies and identifying areas of opportunity, our team members each directly played a role in implementing solutions that reduced downtime likelihood and allowed us to run the lines faster than in the past.
In addition to increasing Bostik’s ability to deliver more products at a faster rate, discovering and executing these throughput improvements required the team’s dedication, commitment, technical expertise and innovation. By establishing a culture of openness, each team member felt comfortable voicing their ideas on how to improve throughput and work together to achieve it.
“Since joining Bostik, I have seen the value in everyone coming together to make improvements for our customers,” commented Senior Production Operator Jeffery David. “I’ve also been empowered to suggest ways to further enhance our internal operations through new training processes, because I’ve seen that such ideas are valued.”
Improved Quality Control
In addition to focusing on throughput, our team wanted to ensure our products are equipped to continue meeting increasingly stringent quality standards.
One way we did this was by improving product consistency to reduce variability for adhesive thickness and end-use product appearance, as both can contribute to quality issues. To do this, the team optimized operating parameters. Doing so required significant technical expertise, experimentation and dedication.
“Improving product consistency is not always an easy task” said Senior Research Engineer Scott Beck. “It’s both an art and a science. At Bostik, we understand the value in quality; the company invests in ensuring we have the tools and knowledge to develop products that measure up to the most stringent performance specifications.”
The plant’s improvements to throughout and quality highlight just some of the ways Bostik is committed to serving our customers and empowering our team members as well. Overall, as a company, we also offer:
- Supply chain expertise: As a global Arkema company, we have the expertise and ability to access raw materials needed from around the globe. We also have some vertically-integrated solutions to further optimize our ability to get customers the right product when and where they need it.
- Custom formulation: We also invest in our team members so that they have the knowledge to develop custom adhesives tailored to specific application needs beyond flashing tape, and we have the infrastructure to produce them at a global scale.
