Traditional Hot Melt Adhesives for Automotive Headliners
Our traditional hot melt adhesives for headliner manufacturing are based on polyolefin, polyamide and polyurethane chemistries.
Our polyolefin hot melt adhesives are suitable for attachment bonding and wire harnesses and can offer:
- Varied temperature resistance levels: Our products can withstand temperatures up to 105°C while still providing cold temperature performance to help maintain headliner performance when exposed to the elements.
- High bond strength: Their strength helps the headliner offer high load resistance while also allowing you to use less adhesive.
- Compatibility with different application methods: These headliner adhesives can be applied via manual or automated bead dispensing equipment for roll coating or swirl spray needs, aiding in production flexibilities.
Our polyamide headliner adhesives are suitable for certain attachment materials, such as PVC wire harnesses or nylon plastics. They can provide:
- Optimized open and cure time ratios: These adhesives are formulated with open times long enough for manual attachment processes while still solidifying into a bond within a couple of minutes to keep production lines moving.
- Ability to be reworked: Because our polyamide attachment adhesives are thermoplastic, they can be remelted and reworked if needed, which can reduce waste.
- Room-temperature cure: Our polyamide hot melt adhesives are formulated to cure at room temperature, which reduces production complexities and energy usage associated with ovens.
Our polyurethane adhesives are suitable for wrapping fabric around the headliner and applications that require contouring and deep draw needs. They are formulated to offer:
- High temperature resistance: These products are thermoset, which allows them to maintain performance even when the headliner is exposed to temperatures as high as 190°C.
- Compatibility with thin foams: Our polyurethane adhesives can offer high flexibility, which allows them to work well with thin foams and contribute to a lightweight headliner.
- Optimized flow, leveling and wetting characteristics: Due to their chemistry, these solutions are optimized to allow the headliner material to flatten out before curing; this can reduce the likelihood of surface deformities, such as “orange peel”.
Specialty Hot Melt Adhesives for Automotive Headliners

Our powders are designed to bind together fiberglass layers as well as bond foams and fabrics. They can provide:

- Range of granule sizes: With granule sizes up to 500 microns, our headliner powder sizes can help reduce dust and ventilation requirements and contribute to worker safety.
- Processing ease: Because they are thermoplastic, our powders can be remelted and reworked if needed.
- Recyclability: Our headliner powder adhesives are designed to be compatible with recycling streams; as excess powder gets scattered during application, you may be able to collect it for recycling.
Our webs are used in laminating foams, fabrics and fiberglass layers and can provide:
- Multi-substrate compatibility: Our headliner web adhesives are compatible with substrates including fiberglass, foams and fabrics.
- Low coat weights: In addition to bonding to lightweight substrates such as foams and fabrics, these web adhesives work well with low coat weights, further contributing to a lightweight end-use product.
- Processing ease: Their rolled geometry makes it easy for multilayer headliner lamination, which contributes to streamlined cycle times.
- Varied temperature resistance levels: Our product portfolio includes solutions that can withstand temperatures ranging from 75°C to 165°C. This range helps you find a product that meets temperature-sensitive and high load requirements.
Our film adhesives work well for laminating headliner foams, fabrics and fiberglass layers; they can offer:
- Ability to bond to low density foams or spacers: Their chemistry allows our films to bond with only a thin layer of adhesive needed; this helps contribute to a lightweight headliner overall.
- Barrier properties: Because they yield full coverage, they can provide monolayer, bilayer and trilayer liquid barrier properties; these properties help each layer separate to reduce damage likelihood and maintain performance as intended.
- Single step layer bonding: Our film adhesives are optimized to bond headliner layers in one step, streamlining production processes.
Featured Automotive Headliner Adhesives
- Thermogrip® 9706: This traditional hot melt adhesive offers high temperature resistance and strong bonds to substrates including untreated TPO and PP, which helps it meet heavy load requirements.
- Supergrip® 100: Supergrip 100 provides high initial tack, good cold and heat resistance and excellent adhesion to many substrates, including EPS foam, honeycomb, steel, wood and laminate.
- PE 103: This polyester web adhesive for headliner applications bonds well to fabrics, foams and vinyls and has good resistance to oils and plasticizers.
- TC 1760US CX92: This product is designed for headliners and sunshades. It is a multilayer, thermoplastic film comprised of a polyethylene-based adhesive layer and propylene-based barrier layer. The barrier layer provides high temperature resistance for some exothermic production processes that use liquid urethane.
