BOSTIK ROLL 240 provides a new way to install flooring on stairs that solves many of the problems associated with solvent-based contact adhesive, the standard fixing method that has been used for many years.

Why choose tape over solvent adhesive?

Although solvent adhesive dries quickly, and the bond is instant upon contact, there are significant drawbacks to a solvent-based solution:

  • Health and safety concerns relating to solvents.
  • Solvents are flammable.
  • Potential discoloration problems: the upper layers of layered vinyl products that have been installed with solvent adhesive tend yellow.
  • Plasticiser migration. Even small amounts of residual solvent can cause plasticiser to leach out of flexible profiles, making them shrink as they stiffen.

BOSTIK offers a solution that solves these problems.

BOSTIK ROLL 240 is a double-sided reinforced tape ideal for the installation of soft floor coverings on stairs. It is a robust, high-bond, plasticiser-resistant, pressure-sensitive product.

BOSTIK SL C900 REPAIR is a filler finishing and reprofiling compound for floors and walls. It is perfect for use on both the horizontal and vertical surfaces of stairs.

Step 1: Preparation

  • If the stair surfaces are not smooth, use BOSTIK SL C900 REPAIR compound to smooth the horizontal and vertical surfaces. (The compound will take foot traffic after 90 minutes, and curing will take approximately 6 hours; these times will be longer if the temperature is below +25 degrees Celsius.)
  • Ensure the substrate is clean, sound, dry, of adequate strength, and free from laitance, cracks, and structural defects.
  • Completely remove any contaminants that may hinder adhesion, such as grease, dust, some curing compounds, and moisture-sensitive adhesive residues.
  • If necessary, prime the surfaces with GRIP A310 or GRIP A500 before installing the BOSTIK ROLL 240.
  • Application temperature +10 to +30 degrees Celsius at RH less than 75%.
  • Unroll and apply the tape either in the direction perpendicular to the steps or parallel to them.
  • Never apply the tape to the back of the floor covering.
  • Press on the entire surface of the protective paper to eliminate any air bubbles and ensure adhesion everywhere.
  • Protect the adhesive from dust contamination by keeping the release film in place until you are ready to bond the flooring materials.
  • Pull the protective tape to reveal the high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesive.
  • Install the flooring onto the stairs, and rub it down to ensure the adhesion is even.
  • Drying time: zero. (Bostik Roll 240 uses a contact dry adhesive.)
  • Walk-on time: immediately after application.
