In a hospital, walls get bumped and scraped a lot in high-traffic areas due to the many heavy rolling loads (wheelchairs, gurneys, supply trolleys) zooming from one place to another. Such wear and tear not only damages the walls but also creates a risk of spread of infection due to multiple contacts with them.
Walls in hospital corridors can be protected by installing washable panels that can also withstand the impacts typical in such environments.
Bostik has the solutions for fixing such panels into place.

STIX A300 MULTI-FLOOR is a multi-functional acrylic adhesive that works with a wide variety of wall (and floor) coverings. It has a high initial tack and high strength. The product is solvent-free and has low VOC emissions, making it safe to use. There will also be minimal impact on the building’s occupants during installation.

BOSTIK ROLL 25/50/85 is a reinforced, solvent-free adhesive tape. It provides an effective alternative to water- and solvent-based adhesives. Bostik Roll is supplied in ready-to-use, dry adhesive rolls in widths of 25 mm, 50 mm, and 85 mm. This solution provides a convenient, easy, and clean installation that resists plasticizer migration.

SUPERGRIP ALL-IN-ONE H515 is a universal high-strength hybrid adhesive with a quick strength build-up. It is a powerful fast-curing grab adhesive with high mechanical resistance to tearing. H515 is ideal for the fixing of wall protection to corners of walls that protrude into high-traffic areas and are more likely to suffer impacts.

Use Bostik adhesive solutions to protect the walls – and the occupants – of your building.

How to install wall protection panels.

STIX A300 MULTI-FLOOR

Step 1: Clean the wall surface

The wall must be clean, sound, dry, and free from contaminants that may impair adhesion (e.g. dust, grease, paint, plaster, polish, and water-softenable adhesive).

Very absorbent walls should be primed using a suitable Bostik primer before applying adhesive, Priming reduces over-absorption of the adhesive into the substrate, giving a good working time and strong adhesive bond.

Step 2: Apply the adhesive to the backs of the panels

Place the panels face-down on a flat surface. Apply the product evenly to the back of each panel using a trowel sized to suit the smoothness/roughness of the backing. Hold the trowel at a 60-degree angle, and take care to prevent the adhesive from spilling over the edges.

Step 3: Leave the panels for 10–15 minutes

Leave the panels to dry for the specified waiting time (10–15 minutes).

Step 4: Place each panel into position on the wall

After you have waited 10–15 minutes, when the adhesive is tacky and receptive, lift each panel into position and press firmly. The adhesive has a high initial tack, so make any last-second adjustments as soon as possible before it’s too late.

Use a spacer to create 2 mm gaps between your wall panels. (These gaps can be filled with a heat-sealed joint at the end of the work.)

Step 5: Wait 36 hours before welding the joints

The adhesive will cure in 24–36 hours. After that, you can weld the joints between the panels.

Step 2: Apply the tape to the backs of the panels

Place the tape on the surface at even intervals of 300mm. Panels can differ in size, taping just the perimeter won’t be substantial, as the middle will flex ‘bubble’. Alternatively to the 300 mm intervals, you can also tape the middle.

For smaller panels, you can place them face-down on a flat surface. Apply the adhesive tape along the perimeter of the back of each panel and in vertical strips every 15–20 centimetres.

Step 3: Place each panel into position on the wall

The beauty of this adhesive tape is that it is dry and solvent-free, and there is no waiting time or curing time. Place each panel carefully into position, using a spacer to ensure 2mm gaps between panels. (These gaps can be filled with a weld at the end of the work.)

Step 4: Weld the joints

No curing. You can weld the joints between the panels immediately.

SUPERGRIP ALL-IN-ONE H515 – for wall protection to protruding corners

Step 1: Clean the wall surface

Clean surfaces with Bostik T100 UNIVERSAL CLEANER.

SUPERGRIP ALL-IN-ONE H515 adheres perfectly without the use of primer to most non-porous substrates. Always test adhesion before application.

Step 2: Prepare the cartridge

Cut off the dome at the top of the cartridge taking care not to damage the thread. Cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle to the required diameter and screw it onto the cartridge. Insert the cartridge into a cartridge gun and repeatedly squeeze the trigger until the adhesive appears.

Step 3: Apply the adhesive to the backs of the wall panels

Place the panels face-down on a flat surface. Use the caulking gun to apply the adhesive in 5mm diameter vertical beads to the backs of the panels at the edges and internally at 15–20 centimetre spacings.

align and bring the surfaces together ensuring to crush the beads of adhesive. Beads 5mm in diameter are generally sufficient.

Step 4: Place each panel into position on the wall

Place each panel carefully into position, pressing the panel to ensure the adhesive beads are crushed. Use a spacer to ensure 2mm gaps between panels. (These gaps can be filled with a heat-sealed joint at the end of the work.)

Step 5: Wait 24 hours before welding the joints

The adhesive will cure in 24 hours. After that, you can weld the joints between the panels.
