Why PU foam is used beyond gap filling

PU foam is often seen as a product for filling gaps around a building. In practice, some polyurethane foams are also designed to act as foam adhesives. This means they can help with specific installation tasks where a strong initial hold, fast setting time and controlled application are required.

It can be used for installing window frames and doors, filling gaps, bonding stony and concrete-type products, drywall panels and decorative elements. It can also be used for insulating and gap filling around door and window frames and in walls.

Speed and control in insulation board installation

A fast-curing PU foam adhesive can help when bonding insulation boards such as EPS or XPS panels. With P925 FOAM’N’FIX TURBO MULTI-USE, the foam is applied to the prepared substrate around the full perimeter of the panel, approximately 5 cm from the edges. It is also applied in vertical strips across the panel surface, spaced around 20 cm apart. The element is then pressed to the substrate within the recommended timing window and secured against displacement while the initial adhesion develops.

This application method supports 60 seconds for foam application and 60 seconds for bonding. The product is applied from the can after shaking it vigorously 20 times and turning the valve down. For insulation board work, the value comes from both installation speed and controlled application. The aim is to keep boards correctly positioned while reducing unnecessary interruption during the job.

Supporting thermal performance without extra complexity

Door installation with quick fixing and added insulation

Door installation requires stable positioning around the frame. When the fixing process takes too long, small movements can affect the final result and create more adjustment work.

PU foam can help by supporting the installation of doors while filling gaps around the frame. P925 FOAM’N’FIX TURBO MULTI-USE is recommended for installing doors and can also be used for insulating and gap filling in joints around door and window frames. After application, the foam reaches tack free time in 90–150 seconds, with final bonding between 50–70 minutes.

This type of adhesive foam simplifies door installation because it fixes and insulates in a single step. After application, the door frame can be positioned and held in place during the initial bonding phase. Once cured, the foam can be trimmed and finished with sealant or plaster. This creates a clean, professional finish around the frame and contributes to thermal insulation.

Bonding panels for floor heating system build-ups

Panel bonding applications require the element to be pressed to the substrate and secured against displacement while the initial adhesion forms. When XPS panels are bonded to a suitable prepared substrate, the element must be secured against displacement for 60 to 120 seconds depending on whether the element is light or heavy.

P925 FOAM’N’FIX TURBO MULTI-USE can be used for bonding panels, including XPS boards. The foam is applied around the panel perimeter, approximately 5 cm from the edges, and in vertical strips across the panel surface, with around 20 cm between each strip. The element should then be pressed to the substrate within the stated timing window and secured against displacement while the initial adhesion forms. 

This can help keep boards in place during installation while the initial adhesion forms. The product is fast curing and quick setting, with final bonding between 50 and 70 minutes.

What to check before using polyurethane foam on site

Before using polyurethane foam, check that the substrate is suitable for the intended application. With P925 FOAM’N’FIX TURBO MULTI-USE, substrates must be clean and free of dust, oil and grease. For general foam use, substrates should be slightly moistened because this improves adhesion and the finished cell structure. For panel bonding, do not spray with water and do not use water when using the product as an adhesive. 

Site temperature also matters. P925 can be applied from -10°C to +40°C, with temperature resistance from -40°C to +90°C once cured. It is an all-seasons formulation, which can help when work continues across changing site conditions.

Compatibility should always be confirmed before application. P925 is not suitable for PE, PP, PC, PMMA, PTFE, soft plastics or neoprene. It is also not suitable for permanent water load or for filling cavities with insufficient moisture. For panel bonding, using the adhesive does not eliminate mechanical fixing with dowels.

Project requirements may also include indoor air quality or emissions considerations. P925 is certified EC1 Plus 1 and complies with A+ French VOC Regulation 2, which can support product selection where these criteria are part of the specification.
