The new Bostik Roll range of tapes provides an effective, dry alternative to solvent-based adhesives for flooring coverings

Dry contact adhesive tapes to address floor covering market trends.

Introducing BOSTIK’s new range of professional flooring tapes developed specifically for applications such as the installation of floor coverings, skirtings, one-piece stair treads, and PVC shower systems and fittings. These products have been developed as tailor-made, easy-to-use alternatives to solvent-based adhesives in response to developing trends in the coverings market.

The Bostik Roll range of tapes: a summary.

Bostik Roll is solvent-free and does not leave behind any of the vapours that are often associated with traditional contact adhesives. It will not discolour bonded materials and offers excellent plasticiser migration resistance, making it particularly suited for use with PVC products.

  • BOSTIK ROLL 25/50/85 is a reinforced adhesive strip for fitting all types of PVC elements such as skirtings, accessories, and protective wall panels, and for coving up floor coverings to form skirtings.
  • BOSTIK ROLL 240 is a reinforced adhesive strip for installing soft floor coverings on stairs such as PVC, linoleum, rubber, carpet, and needle-punched fabric. It is suitable for stair treads with pre-shaped corners, protective wall panels, tactile slabs, and guide paths.
  • BOSTIK ROLL 740 is a wide adhesive strip for use with soft floor coverings. It is suitable for use on new surfaces and existing floor coverings, as well as temporary installations such as trade shows and special events. It enables the floor covering and adhesive to be removed manually in a single operation, even after several years.
  • BOSTIK ROLL RF50/RF100 is a removable adhesive strip designed for use with flexible floor coverings in renovation projects. Mainly designed for semi-permanent installation of homogeneous and heterogeneous PVC and expanded vinyl floor covering strips. BOSTIK ROLL RF50 is used to provide a strong bond around the edges of a room, and BOSTIK ROLL RF100 provides adhesion at seams.
  • BOSTIK ROLL SD50 is a thin adhesive strip designed for use with PVC wall coverings in shower units, for hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare facilities. BOSTIK ROLL SD50 replaces solvent-based neoprene adhesives.
  • BOSTIK ROLL MT35 is a multi-purpose high-performance foam adhesive for mounting interior fittings, decorations, and finishing work, for example, metal step edges and threshold strips, mirrors and decor items, wall panels, and elevator linings.

Use BOSTIK ROLL tapes for a quick, easy, and clean installation of floor coverings.

How to use BOSTIK ROLL tapes.

Rather than attempting to give instructions for each of the BOSTIK ROLL tapes, we provide here a basic summary of the installation steps that are common to each type of tape. For full information, please refer to the Technical Data Sheets for each product or the instructions that come with each pack of tape.

Step 1: Clean and prepare the substrate

Make sure that the area is clean, sound, and dry and that the subfloor has adequate tensile and compression strength,  free from laitance, cracks, and structural defects. Ensure that the condition of the substrate conforms with the building regulations of your country. Remove completely any contaminants that may hinder adhesion, such as grease, dust, some curing compounds, and moisture-sensitive adhesive residues.

Metal, plastic, previously applied adhesives, and painted walls will need light mechanical abrading to create sufficient roughness. After abrading, remove dust from the surfaces.

Ensure any damage to walls and floors is made good and that there is a smooth, flat surface on which to apply the BOSTIK ROLL product. If the subfloor is not smooth or level, apply a BOSTIK self-levelling (‘self-smoothing’ in the UK) compound to correct the surface.

Priming:  Prime textured or porous surfaces as required by applying BOSTIK GRIP A500 MULTI or BOSTIK A526 UNIVERSAL PRIMER with a brush or roller.

Step 2: Applying the tape

Apply the tape in accordance with the instructions for each specific tape product.

With the exception of MT35, the products’ instructions all include pressing on the entire surface of the protective paper to eliminate air bubbles and ensure adhesion everywhere before pulling off the protective paper and rubbing down the flooring or decoration.

BOSTIK ROLL must always be applied to the substrate (the floor or wall) not to the floor covering or accessory. Once it has been applied to the substrate, the tape should be firmly compressed using a suitable hand roller. Before removing the release paper, ensure all materials (e.g. capping, skirting, vinyl) are cut to the appropriate size. Remove the release paper and, using controlled, consistent hand pressure, place the materials onto the BOSTIK ROLL while avoiding air entrapment.

Once the material is firmly in place, apply pressure via the roller to enhance the bond between the materials. BOSTIK ROLL offers an instant, pressure-sensitive bond enabling further processes to be carried out immediately. In areas such as shower enclosures and wet rooms, the design must ensure water is kept away from the adhesive bond line. (Where necessary, use a bead of suitable sealant to protect it.)

That’s it! There is no curing time to worry about. The area can be walked on immediately.
