Adhesive Add-On At a Glance

In the disposable hygiene market, the amount of adhesive applied to a product is known as the add-on level. It typically ranges from 2 grams per square meter (gsm) to 4 gsm. The impact on core integrity from 2 to 4 gsm depends on the application method.

With the spray method, there is no noticeable difference between 2 and 4 gsm add-on when applied on the bottom of the core. However, when using the multi-slot method to apply add-on in the same area, increasing from 2 to 4 gsm strengthens core integrity and enhances performance.

In either case, there is no effect on acquisition and rewet.

If add-on is applied to the top of the core, it can have a negative impact on acquisition because the liquid has to move through the adhesive.
